Daily Commentary on SSRI by William Schmidt, Ph.D.- www.tigersoft.com I have been asked many times how to use all of TigerSoft's many technical trading tools. "Will you, please, apply them to a running commentary about a specific stock?" So this site will offer such comments about a stock. I will save them each night for a month or so, so one can go back and see how prescient the comments were and how they were arrived at. I have chosen a Canadian silver stock - SSRI - Silver Standards. Yahoo describes its business. (For US stocks Yahoo also shows the stock's biggest holders and presents data on insider trades in the stock.) : SSRI has thinly traded Options .It's website is located at http://www.silver-standard.com On their site, is a fine map showing their principal and prospective mines in Canada, the US, Peru, Argentina and Australia. They claim to "control the world's largest published in-ground silver resources of any publicly-traded silver company." (t should be noted that their rival Pan American Silver (PAAS) says that its "mission is to be the largest and lowest cost primary silver mining company globally". So, SSRI is by no means the only way to play rising silver prices. SLV - is the silver ETF. It is great. Silver Futures contracts are also worthy of attention because of the extra leverage. I should note that my views on Silver and the relative merits of buying silver stocks versus SLV were stated most recently on our Blog for 2/10/2008. Silver like most commodities and metals is in a strong long-term trend. As long as that trend continues, silver stocks will make very good trading tools as well as longer term investments. If you are buying a stock, I consider it safer and usually more profitable to buy a stock whose industry is on firm footings and in an up-trend. Below you will see the weekly chart of SSRI as of 2/22/2008. You will also want to keep current on your stock's news, earnings, insider sales and see who are the biggest holders. Yahoo presents this information very nicely and it is free. Each day or so, I will do daily comments on SSRI and let you see the basis if them, using TigerSoft's tools. Our introductory materials will help you understand how to use our software and these signals. Wednesday 7/16/2008 29.07 -.52 On 4 Selle.. Technically, the stock has had good OBV (aggressie buying) of late. But the TigerSoft Accumulation Index remains negative. The turning positive of this indicator would be bullish and make the stock resemble its behavior last August. This stock is volatile. A move above the down trend with the Accum Index turning positive, would likely set up a move back over $40 later this year. Not shown here is the bullish chart for the XAU. (TigerSoft lets you draw diagonal price lines and see where the lines cross now. It also lets you draw horizontal price lines and see where they cross.). The chart below shows two longer-term uptrends. One uptrend-line starts in 2006 and crosses at 31. The other, which starts in 2005, crosses at 26. Both have been violated, Being aware of these breaks is important. If you do not use TigerSoft's weekly data gathering and Dial Data, know that you can get a good longer-term perspective from Yahoo's charts. Look also at Google's charts. They line up news items with their price charts. http://finance.google.com/finance?client=ob&q=SSRI ![]() As long as these uptrendlines are not violated, traders should use TigerSoft's Buy and Sell signals with the stock. ![]()
